| FIERCE SHOTS FROM PENN FASHION SHOWS |
| APRIL 13, 2009 |
The culminating event of the annual Penn Fashion Week was a hit fashion show featuring iconic fashion houses as well as student designers. The stadium was PACKED as everyone chattered excitedly before the opening of the show. Many of our friends, who are otherwise not involved with the fashion scene on campus, showed up to support their friends who are modeling, help backstage, or feature their own designs in the show.
The WAX BCBGeneration Walk-off was a test of the student's personal style rather than their ability to show case other people's designs. The theme of the fashion competition is timelessly classic, and there were three categories: business casual, night time, and a freestyle round. The Penn BCBGeneration ambassadors helped WAX setup the room to fully represent BCBGeneration. Take a look!

| DOMENICO DE SOLE'S VISION FOR GUCCI |
| APRIL 4, 2009 |
Penn Fashion Week swept the Penn campus with style, fashion, and entertainment. From the Mac workshop (check out our blog entry!) to reps from Maserati for the Luxury Panel to the culminating fashion show (check out our other entry!), Penn was saturated by the fashion elite. My favorite event of the week, however, was the keynote speech delivered by Mr. Domenico De Sole. For those of you who aren't familiar with Mr. De Sole, let's just say that this man single-handedly saved Gucci and made it the multi-brand fashion empire it is today from the early 1990's. Mr. De Sole was the former CEO of GUCCI and the current CEO of Tom Ford, and he is a dynamic, personable and very humorous gentleman. After the speech, I actually had the honor of speaking with him and shaking his hand. We talked about my involvement with BCBGeneration and the fashion industry in general; his encouragement really made me want to pursue a career in this industry. Although we were not allowed to take a picture with Mr. De Sole, I did snap a few pictures during the speech. Enjoy!

| BRAVE NEW GENERATION GOES TO SOHO AND MEATPACKING DISTRICT! |
| MARCH 29, 2009 |
After obtaining sponsorship from BCBGeneration for UPenn Fashion Week, Brave New Generation embarked on a new and exciting journey to Soho and the Meatpacking District. Sponsored by Dzine2show, Penn's fashion club, and Baker Retail Initiative, a few select students got the chance to go on this tour guided by Fatima Whitaker of Whitaker International, a consulting firm specializing in brand positioning based on client lifestyles.
Fatima started her career in fashion at the age of fifteen, and worked as a designer for Giorgio Armani and many other prominent fashion houses. Fatima is now a guru in the fashion branding industry. Our tour started in the Apple Store, and Fatima told us that the number one rule in educational tours is to never shop on a job. Instead, we should pay close attention to the atmosphere, interior design, details of the collection, and etc. to assess what kind of lifestyle each brand is trying to sell. We proceeded to Prada, Marni, which had the most amazing patterns and bright colors, John Varvatos, Uniqlo and Comptoir de Cotonnier.
We had to cut our tour of Soho short because Erin, our guide from the Baker Retail initiative, received an invitation from Mickey Drexler for all of us to meet him in the J.Crew headquarters. Mickey was the former CEO of GAP and single-handedly revolutionized the way Americans dressed. Fatima, Erin and Monika (Fatima's partner) agreed that Mickey is probably one of the most successful merchants in the fashion industry. In his mostly white, spacious studio on 770 Broadway, Mickey channeled his signature outfit of white suede shoes, white sweater and Diesel jeans. He was very easy going and brutally honest. When someone compared Uniqlo to the old GAP, Mickey lamented that GAP has gone the wrong direction and that Uniqlo has made the right decisions. Mickey proceeded to show us the new denim leggings that will be available in Madewell stores soon, and asked for our opinions. Although I was not a huge fan of the pair personally, I believe that with the right person and body shape, the pair will be very flattering.
After leaving Mickey's office, we proceeded to the Meatpacking District and visited Matthew Wiliamson, a master in jeweled tops and dresses, Tory Burch, a past UPenn alum, Diane von Furstenberg, and Jeffrey's, which according to Fatima, is THE place to be to scout out the trends of the season. We left NYC around 3 PM, and I wish we could've stayed longer to experience Soho and Meatpacking District some more.
