LOVELY NEUTRALS
MARCH 29, 2010

Flesh and nude is the color to wear this season as major designers sent out beautiful garments in head to two beiges, whites, blushes, and other pale concotions of the world. Neutrals have always been a classic color that adds a definite classic touch. It is understated and feminine without looking like you tried just a little too hard. The softness of the colors works perfectly with the warming weather.

BCBGeneration this seasons makes some lovely neutral dresses that would be perfect a perfect addition to any wardrobe!

Some tips for wearing head to toe neutrals:

  • Play with texture so that the color doesn't wash you out and so that your outfit has some visual interest
  • Play with different tones of neutrals matching beige with white or pinks with khakis, go wild!
  • Add accessories like belts or necklaces to add visual interest and break up the monochrome look

ST. PATRICKS DAY FASHION
MARCH 14, 2010

In my dream fashion world, I will not be wearing a green tshirt with a clover on St. Patricks Day. I will be donning this delicious outfit of designer duds. Color schemed outfits, when done correctly, can make for a fabulous fashion statement. If you're going for all green, look for different tones, fabrics, and textures to break up the monochrome-ness.

Now all I need to find is that four leaf clover and find my pot of gold!

WHY I LOVE LA FASHION
MARCH 14, 2010

Many fashionistas around the world (and in LA) tend to look down upon LA fashion. Something about our casualness and lack of a true Fashion Week perhaps leaves something to be much deserved. But I being an Angelino for the past four years must defend my beloved city's fashion choices.

Our East Coast sister cities me see our fashion choices as lacking style, but I beg to differ. There is something warm and charming about LA style. Perhaps its the constant sunshine that makes me feel this way, but I think it's our attitude and laid back attitude that really is the essence of LA fashion.

The typical LA uniform consists of leggings, oversized jersey pieces and flip flops. It's not uncommon to find everyone from young girls, to celebrities, to celebrity wannabes adorned in these items. Sure it may not be couture, but you know what, it's pretty darn comfortable.

So here it goes, why I love LA Fashion:

  • We're comfortable, don't deny it. I can go from wearing a cute dress and tights one day and then suddenly show up in sweats, v-neck tshirt, and flip flops the next day without getting judged. Now that's fashion freedom.
  • While the weather means that lovely coats that I have collected over the years are obsolete, it does also mean that I don't have to worry about the cold when I'm dressing up in the morning.
  • We're not pretentious. Sure Hollywood is in LA where famous people roam with their designer duds, but our laid back attitude means that we don't really care what we wear.
  • Flips flops are like the easiest shoes to wear!
  • And best of all, BCBG is located here.

ALICE IN WONDERLAND
MARCH 1, 2010

I am super excited for Tim Burton new movie, Alice in Wonderland, coming out March 5th! Everytime I watch the a Tim Burton movie, he takes me into another world. Not only are the visuals so vivid and quirky, but the costuming and fashions never fail to disappoint.

Some things to make your wardrobe more Alice-esque:

  • A little light blue floofy dress is perfect for the spring time. Go with a short party dress version that can be easily worn for day or night
  • Mini top hats to clip in your hair. Just because you're not a mad hatter doesn't mean you can't take joy in wearing top hats! Decorative top hat clips and headbands add a little something extra to your do without covering your whole hat.
  • Golden Locket. Tell time or hold a picture? A golden locket necklace is the epitome of girly fairytales and is function all at once!
  • Rabbit motifs.
  • Hearts, polka dots. These shapes are cute and girly. Mix and match with more basic pieces.
  • Bows, bows, bows! On your hair, on your top, bows are awesome
  • Emerald green. That one Johnny Depp poster really makes me want things in emerald green. Although not a normal spring time color, green is always a nice thing to have in your wardrobe. Plus, looking at green makes your eyes healthier!

HALLOWEEN ON A BUDGET
OCTOBER 20, 2009

Halloween is one of my favorite holidays. As a wacky fashionista, I have the opportunity to go all out without any shame and judgment, but with full-on pride.

With the recession hitting us hard and our budgets being tighter than ever, what's a girl to do when it comes to finding a great Halloween costume that is awesome and won't break the bank? Simple.

  • Shop at thrift stores: This should be a given. Thrift stores are awesome and super cheap in finding vintage pieces for decades past. 60's mod girl, 70's hippy? They are also filled with tacky (aka specTACKular) 80's and 90's pieces that are sure to be hits with a little creativity. 80's prom dress with red paint. Carrie anyone? Or if not, you can come up with your own original costume like "80's-Glitter-Party-Fairy." The possibilities are endless. With some altering, you can find yourself with a whole new costume!
  • Re-use old costumes: When it comes to costumes, there should be no thing such as "fast-fashion." Costumes are expensive. $70 for a spandex bumble bee dress? Instead of just throwing it out perhaps add some new life to a costume. Get a plastic crown and now you are the "Queen Bee." Okay, not that different, but still, it's sort of original? My friend is re-using her sister's pirate coat and turning it into a circus ring leader outfit.
  • Do-It-Yourself. It should be no surprise that for the people who have crafty hands and some spare time on their hands, that DIY-ing is the best way to go. You have full control of what you make and how you make it. Costumes at chain stores are usually poor in quality anyway so why not make your costume special and better quality? Even if you are a newbie to sewing or DIY-ing, with a little imagination you can go a long way.
This year, I will be the Asian version of Bjork in her swan dress. I made it last weekend (instead of studying). I think the only reason why I decided to be her this year was so that I could finally come up with a way to have a swan dress lying around and wear it on a normal day.

HAPPY BEARTHDAY
APRIL 22, 2009

Today is my 21st birthday as well as the wonderful earth's we live on. I don't feel 21 at all. I think I still have the mentality of a 16 year old. My year 21 is already off to a good start. Last night I went to my first American bar with my friends. I concluded that my four month stint in Italy wasn't legit. Tonight my BFF and I are off to a lovely dinner in Hollywood. We'll be cool and livin' it up "LA" style except for the fact that we will be taking the metro. But that's okay. It's all about the adventure.

One of the best things about birthdays is the excuse for being able to dress up. In America, the 21 thing is a pretty big deal, so what a great way for me to hype up my fashion instincts and get dressed up in something that will capture the youthful spirit of this moment in life. We only turn 21 once after all. But then again we only turn 22 once, and 23 once... but this is digressing from my point. My personal philosophy is that every day should be a good excuse to dress up but I guess 21 is the pinnacle.

Now, if I were made of money, which unfortunately I am not, this would be my dream 21st birthday outfit. I spent a good deal of my time at my job playing with Polyvore. I know, shame on me for slacking. If you have not been to Polyvore.com yet you are missing out! It is like the online version of your mother's closet except with cooler clothes.

The outfit is easy, comfortable (minus the heels, but I will gladly suffer for heels), and just makes me smile. It is an outfit that captures youth and maturity. Chic and quirky. It's the ying and yang to my 21 year old fashion loving heart. For a night out, it's more appropriate to stick with darker colors. However, I like having splashes of color to create personality and quick. To me, clothing need to have personality, and all these pieces certainly do. Adding a structured jacket to a flowy dress chic-ens the outfit immediately and creates a more evening-esque silhouette.

This is what I picked up.

  • Matthew Williamson Rococco embellished silk dress
  • Rick Owens Tie-front leather jacket
  • Ann Demeulemeester Asymmetric Jacket
  • John Galliano Patent And Satin Sandals
  • alexander mcqueen silver heels
  • Christian Louboutin Mount Street bag
  • Alexander Mcqueen Black Patent Leather Clutch Bag
  • Ribbon and Chain Necklace
  • Filigree Center Ring
Perhaps by the time I'm 30 will actually be able to afford an outfit like this. And by then, I will finally be truly 21 in my mind.

A LITTLE HELLO
APRIL 13, 2009

For me, fashion blogging is more than just about regurgitating the latest trends and fashions. It's about the voice behind the thoughts and opinions. I like reading blogs for their personality and individual quirks. But that's just me. So before I begin my first post I would like to quickly introduce myself because I always feel a little awkward talking to someone I don't know for the longest time before actually introducing myself. A first time blog post is the same thing in my opinion.

I'll keep it short and brief since the only person that would really enjoy reading about me, is well, probably only me.

My name is Tiffany and what do you know, I love fashion. My latest obsession are shoes. What girl doesn't like shoes? I love thrifting and am a hardcore bargain hunter. Being on a college student budget has its advantages when it comes to skills like bargain hunting. I love odd objects and quirky trinkets but can fall in love with the latest trends as well. I am a firm believer in one man's trash is another's treasure. I want to be a fashion designer. I want to start my own company. But what I really want, is to own a Philip Treacy creation. Now wouldn't that be sweet.

First post wasn't too exciting, except for those amazing hats. Philip Treacy is my hero. But get ready for an upcoming series on getting creative with spring trends.
